Previously, the situation in Kotka healthcare centres was similar to any other healthcare centre. Employees were having their hands full with work, as warfarin dosages and instructions needed to be delivered to their patients by phone. As a result, the healthcare centres had a problem. The deployment of Forsante brought a welcome solution by automating routine tasks: the healthcare professionals now had more time for patients.
According to Riitta Johannala-Kemppainen, Forsante was chosen to make both employees’ and patients’ everyday life easier. Forsante Anticoagulation Service automates the dosing and follow-up of warfarin and direct oral anticoagulants by the use of artificial intelligence.
With Forsante we were able to replace the time-consuming calls with text messages, and the patients got clear instructions that wouldn’t get lost. The information flow is now a lot smoother.
Forsante was first deployed in the healthcare centres of Kotka city. Now the use of Forsante has expanded to cover the whole Kymenlaakso region – it is used in all healthcare units. These include, in addition to the healthcare centres, also the central hospital and home care services.
According to Johannala-Kemppainen, taking up Forsante was easy.
Working with the Forsante people is really effortless. Right from the beginning we were listened to and our wishes and suggestions were responded to.
Many of the warfarin patients are old. Johannala-Kemppainen admits that at first they had some doubts how their patients would react to Forsante. Nevertheless, it turned out that also the patients have been really satisfied.
None of our patients or healthcare professionals wants to return to the old system, now that we have experienced the benefits of Forsante.
According to Johannala-Kemppainen, in addition to a smoother information flow, Forsante service has also standardised the treatment and, as a result, the treatment quality and patient safety have improved.
Because of automation, clear dosages and follow-up instructions are received quickly. The INR levels of our patients have been stabilised due to the reliable and high quality treatment process. Moreover, patient safety has improved, now that all units and departments have access to the same system.
